Thank you, Dr. Markolin, for this. As an oldster Humanities kinda guy, I've been interested in science since age 7. During the 1970s I became convinced that that the advent of Modern Science (17th c.) has done far more to make the world a better place than any other area of intellectual thought. Furthermore, it drives economics and real wealth. To see a group of know-nothing clowns and chumps attack it from all sides by "hacking" mass psychology is a daily horror that, speaking candidly, I tend to turn away from because the stupidity is so withering. I retreat to my study.
But I will be writing about this. I am your ally. And I'll no doubt be using some of the richness you present here when I do so.

Democracy is important.
It is difficult to listen, but even scientists should.
When we are self congratulatory and weird then there are societal factors that can and will tell us to slow down or even stop.
Some of those arguments can be dismissed, but not all.
Because science is important, but so is democracy.
