Thank you, Dr. Markolin, for this. As an oldster Humanities kinda guy, I've been interested in science since age 7. During the 1970s I became convinced that that the advent of Modern Science (17th c.) has done far more to make the world a better place than any other area of intellectual thought. Furthermore, it drives economics and real wealth. To see a group of know-nothing clowns and chumps attack it from all sides by "hacking" mass psychology is a daily horror that, speaking candidly, I tend to turn away from because the stupidity is so withering. I retreat to my study.

But I will be writing about this. I am your ally. And I'll no doubt be using some of the richness you present here when I do so.

Thanks again!

This was a great article! Whether it’s an intentional playbook, or merely a way for social media posters to gain artificial accolades it unfortunately leads to the same place, undermining scientific endeavor.

Your writing reminds me a lot of what Yuval Harari has written about information systems.
